Nadal dropped a heartwarming message on the passing of Italian legend Lea Pericoli. The former WTA star was one of the country’s top players during the 1950s and 60s. Pericoli reached the last 16 twice in the French Open and thrice at Wimbledon. “The mother to all of us,” as referred to by the President of the Italian Tennis Federation, Angelo Binaghi, this legend later became a popular television presenter and journalist. Pericoli breathed her last at 89. Renowned players paid tribute to her, including Nadal.

The Mallorcan shared Sky Sports Tennis’ IG post on his story and wrote a heartfelt message. “Hi Lea. Thank you for everything. You will always be remembered by all of us,” wrote Nadal. The Spaniards’ statement highlighted his admiration for the legend. On the other hand, Italy’s star and ATP number one Jannik Sinner also paid condolences on Pericoli’s demise. Sharing a heartfelt photo with the legend, Sinner wrote on his IG story, “A special moment that I will record forever.
