Andy Murray has already made his feelings clear on the prospect of coaching fellow Brit Emma Raducanu as he retires from playing tennis.
Decorated with a trio of Grand Slam singles triumphs, Murray is now calling an end to his illustrious career following his Olympic exit this week. Alongside partner Dan Evans, Team GB were outclassed by American pair Tommy Paul and Taylor Fritz in the men’s doubles quarter-finals, bowing out with scores of 6-2, 6-4.
Having conquered Japan’s Kei Nishikori and Taro Daniel, followed by Belgium’s Joran Vliegen and Sander Gille, the British duo met their match against the USA team. While it may mark the end of an era for Murray on the professional courts, whispers of him transitioning to coaching have been circulating.
In a 2022 chat with the Tennis Channel, he expressed an interest in coaching talents like Raducanu when posed with the question about mentoring future tennis proteges. Despite the prospects of a potentially dynamic partnership, Raducanu’s absence from joining Murray in Wimbledon’s mixed doubles this summer, alongside the revelation that Murray is already guiding 17-year-old Charlie Robertson, seem to have put any hopes of a collab on hold.
