Emma Raducanu has elected not to take part in Great Britain’s upcoming Billie Jean King (BJK) Cup ties.
Raducanu made career history at the Miami Open, achieving something for the first time since her historic US Open win in 2021.
The 22-year-old’s breakthrough run at the WTA1000 tournament came to an end in the quarter-finals, with Raducanu being beaten by Jessica Pegula.
Raducanu was unsure of what was next at the time, before it was later revealed that she had withdrawn from the BJK Cup.
Ahead of their first matches, the Great Britain team and captain Anne Keothavong fielded questions from the media.
One of those questions related to Raducanu, with Keothavong admitting that she was disappointed by the withdrawal, but could understand why the decision was made.
Yeah, naturally disappointed,” said Keothavong. “But, equally I understand where she is coming from and look she gave a lot to this team last year and you know was a huge part of the reason why she achieved the success that we did.
“But, equally I have got five players here that are highly motivated to be here and are well prepped and I really hope Emma will be part of this again in the future.”
