Mick Schumacher, as a Mercedes reserve driver and an endurance driver at Alpine, has not yet lost touch with Formula 1. The German is increasingly being linked with a seat at Alpine. Alpine team boss Bruno Famin responded to these rumours in Imola.
Schumacher already has two years of Formula 1 experience under his belt. In 2021 and 2022, the German drove around in the Haas. His career back then was not very successful, but the Haas was one of the worst cars in the field at the time. After his retirement from Formula 1, Schumacher returned as Mercedes’ reserve driver. Since this year, he has also been driving on behalf of Alpine in the World Endurance Championship.

Famin very impressed with Schumacher
During a press event after the six hours of Spa-Francorchamps, the 25-year-old was gagged on the subject of Alpine F1 by his spokesman. Alpine team boss Bruno Famin is keeping his lips less firmly sealed in Imola. The Frenchman is very positive about Schumacher. “Mick is making an incredible job in Endurance. What is very impressive is his mindset. Of course he’s fast, but I think everybody knows he’s fast. And you know that in Endurance, it’s not always useful to do a very good lap time. Because you have the BOP on top and you have to be a bit careful with the performance. But the matter there is not to evaluate the pure performance of the driver. But where Mick has been really incredible is in his adaptation to the Endurance mindset. We used to say that single-seater drivers are selfish. Mick, from the very first minute, has been very open, very cooperative, really helpful for his team-mates. Ready to learn everything, specifically from Endurance. Super mindset. Super team spirit.”
Asked whether Mick Schumacher has a chance of winning an F1 seat at Alpine, Famin responded as follows: “I’ve been really impressed by this thing. He’s one of the possibility, for sure. Like many. Like many.” So he is not ruling it out.
