Conor McGregor is always one to court controversy, be that via speech or on his social media accounts, and he has now turned his focus to Canelo Alvarez.
It’s unclear whether he is trying to bait the Mexican icon into an exhibition boxing bout, as he did with Mayweather himself, or just keep his name in the digital sphere ahead of his UFC return.
McGregor, though, might have bitten off more than he can chew as Canelo Alvarez directly responded to him on Twitter, suggesting that he wouldn’t find it difficult to defeat the Irishman at all.
The incident started when the Notorious posted a video showcasing a highlights package from Canelo’s defeat to Floyd Mayweather Jr. back in 2013.
The video clip showcases Mayweather‘s sublime movement and agility, which forced Canelo to miss a lot of his shots, and in some instances even look rather foolish.
Of course, this was a much younger and much less refined Canelo Alvarez, but that information didn’t stop McGregor from taunting the Mexican.
“One of the greatest performances in professional boxing this was. I landed more shots on Floyd than Canelo. I’d love another go,” McGregor posted on Twitter.
After clearly having seen the video going around Boxing’s corner of Twitter, the Mexican fighter took the time to compose a rather withering reply aimed at McGregor, suggesting that if they were to meet in the ring, it would take very little effort for him to embarrass the Irishman.
“I just need one hand with you and I don’t need to throw so many punches,” Canelo Alvarez posted on Twitter.
Canelo Alvarez is understood to be focused on a future rematch with Dmitry Bivol, whilst McGregor‘s immediate schedule is based on his UFC return.
