Casper Ruud clinched his maiden ATP Masters 1000 title with a 7-5, 3-6, 6-4 win over Jack Draper in Madrid Open 2025final on Sunday. The Norwegian embraced lady luck in his third ATP-1000 final (Miami 2022, Monte-Carlo 2024).
The 26-year-old Ruud is assured of a place in tennis history after becoming the first Norwegian to win an ATP Masters 1000 event. After his title run in the Spanish capital, Ruud will move up eight spots to No. 7, marking a return to the ATP Top 10. It is also the Oslo native’s first title since Geneva in May 2024.
Rafael Nadal, a five-time Madrid Open winner, took the lead in congratulating Casper Ruud for his milestone win. The Spaniard took to his official X and Instagram handles to approve Ruud’s match-winning efforts.
Iga Swiatek praised the new Madrid Open winner. Earlier this week, Ruud left a heartfelt note for Iga Swiatek after the Pole crashed to her third straight defeat to American Coco Gauff in the last four in the women’s singles draw at Madrid.
Draper, who was looking to add a second ATP 1000 title after Indian Wells, will rise to a career-high ranking of World No. 5. The Briton displaces Novak Djokovic, who now falls to World No. 6. Draper joins Rafael Nadal as the only other left-hander to make the ATP Top 5 this century.
