Chase Elliott, Josh Berry Among Entries for ASA STARS National Tour Race at Hickory

A pair of NASCAR Cup Series competitors are on the entry list for the ASA STARS National Tour’s visit to Hickory Motor Speedway for the Tar Heel 250 on Thursday, May 23.

Chase Elliott and Josh Berry are among the 25 drivers entered for the Super Late Model event leading into Coca-Cola 600 weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Elliott has competed in three ASA STARS National Tour events since the series’ inception one year ago. The 2020 NASCAR Cup Series champion finished sixth at New Smyrna Speedway in February. He also finished sixth in last year’s Tar Heel 250, and third in the ASA STARS event at North Wilkesboro Speedway last May.

The Tar Heel 250 will be Berry’s first with the ASA STARS National Tour, but he is no stranger to Hickory Motor Speedway. Berry won the Hickory track championship in 2014, and has four CARS Tour Late Model Stock wins at the track. He also won the Super Late Model portion of the 2019 North-South Shootout at Hickory.

Last year, Gio Ruggiero scored the victory in the Tar Heel 250. He is also part of the 25-driver entry list, along with other Late Model standouts such as Casey Roderick, Bubba Pollard, Stephen Nasse, Austin Nason, Kyle Steckly, William Sawalich, Matt Craig and many more.

The 250-lap Super Late Model feature will pay $15,000 to the winner and $1,500 to start. There will also be a National Qualifier event for INEX US Legend Cars as part of Thursday’s program at Hickory. NASCAR Hall of Fame inductee Rusty Wallace will be on hand as Grand Marshal of the event.
