Despite the engine sensor replacement before the race, the HMS driver was optimistic about enthralling his home crowd and redeeming himself from last week’s disappointment at Daytona.

In lap 200 of the 260-lap feature, Trackhouse Racing star Ross Chastain made contact with #9 HMS driver, Chase Elliott, spinning the 2020 Cup Series from the eighth position to bring out the yellow flag.
In a race where speeding tickets were the name of the game, Ross Chastain was found speeding down the limit, and the organization pranced into action, issuing penalties for the #1 driver. On the other hand, Elliott, who barely survived an unfortunate early wreck in lap 2 involving 16 cars, was later caught in the stage 3 spin, while Wallace, in the commotion, got a lucky one, escaping with a free pass.

Elliott fell short in his bid to win his first Daytona 500 on Monday, finishing 14th. He did lead 13 laps, an overall encouraging start to his 2024 season after a dismal season last year. Going winless in 2023 and a lackluster Daytona venture prompted Elliott to make it big in his home track at Atlanta. However, the driver’s aspirations met a sudden halt when NASCAR made the decision to drop Elliott to the rear for “unapproved adjustments.”
The #9 HMS driver, who won in Atlanta in 2022, was moved to the rear of the 37-car field due to making unapproved adjustments, which included changing an engine sensor, and will serve a penalty. But can we deem that the driver’s already sealed with this development? The answer would be a stiff, no. Only because for Elliott it doesn’t matter if he starts from behind the pack or the front owing to the driver’s talent behind the wheel but all things aside, Elliott is yet to find that rhythm that has been working for him, that which got him the 2020 Cup Series championship.
