COLLECTION OF MICHAEL SCHUMACHER MEMORABILIA HEADS TO AUCTION WITH

collection of Michael Schumacher memorabilia is due to be put up for online auction by RM Sotheby’s between late August and early September 2024. Although items from other drivers, such as Rubens Barrichello, Fernando Alonso, David Coulthard, Giancarlo Fisichella and Jacques Villeneuve among others, will be available, it is the Schumacher pieces that are likely to garner the most interest.

The selection runs to more than 250 pieces, and all are offered at no reserve. The auction will take place online between August 28 and September 3-4. Race-worn items and replica pieces are among the collection, which ranges from race suits to scooters and watches. We’ve picked out our highlights below – what do you fancy?

The memorabilia spans Schumacher’s Benetton, Ferrari and Mercedes-Benz days, with the auction led by the above OMP Scuderia Ferrari racing suit, dating from 1997 and offered at no reserve. It carries an estimate of between €30k and €50k. There’s also a signed Sparco suit from the 1993 Benetton season (est: €20k-€30k), a signed 2009 Scuderia Ferrari suit by Puma (est: €20k-€30k), and an OMP racing suit used by Schumacher during the 2005 United States Grand Prix, where he battled from fifth on the grid to take victory; this is also signed and carries an estimate of between €20k and €25k.

There’s also an OMP Ferrari suit from the 2001 Hungarian Grand Prix, which was a lights-to-flag victory for Schumacher; this carries an estimate of between €20k and €25k. A couple of 2003 OMP suits worn during the 2003 Italian Grand Prix and 2003 San Marino Grand Prix – both pole-to-victory races for the German – are estimated at €20k-€25k each. The suit Schumacher wore at the 2006 San Marino Grand Prix, where he beat Ayrton Senna’s record of 65 pole positions before going on to win the race, is also in the sale. This is estimated at between €20k and €25k.

collection of Michael Schumacher pieces also includes the above Schuberth/Scuderia Ferrari helmet worn during the German’s pole-to-victory races at the Hungarian and Spanish Grands Prix in 2001; the latter being where he clinched his fourth world title and equalled Alain Prost’s record of 21 wins. It’s estimated at between €30k and €40k.

Other Schumacher helmets include his 2004 ‘il Tricolore’-design helmet for the Italian Grand Prix while driving for Ferrari (est: €25k-€35k), a special-liveried Schuberth helmet wrapped in platinum foil to mark Schumacher’s 300th F1 start at the 2012 Belgian Grand Prix, while driving for Mercedes-Benz (est: €25k-€35k), a 2010 Mercedes-era helmet (est: €25k-€35k) and a selection of motorcycle helmets.
