Emma Raducanu has provided clarity regarding her situation with new coach Vladimir Platenik following her first-round exit at Indian Wells. The British tennis sensation emphasized that the Slovak coach joined her team only days prior, leaving minimal time for them to implement significant changes or strategies ahead of the tournament.
Reports emerged this week indicating that Platenik, who previously coached Dominika Cibulkova and Daria Kasatkina, was brought on board by the 2021 US Open champion on a trial basis. However, Raducanu’s Indian Wells campaign was cut short as she suffered a 3-6, 2-6 defeat to in her opening match.
In the aftermath of her loss, Raducanu was asked about her experiences with Platenik both on and off the court. “We haven’t necessarily done that much yet, because he arrived very, very recently. So it was the day before the match where we don’t necessarily want to, like, change anything,” she remarked. “So we haven’t actually started proper work yet. From what I can tell so far, he’s very serious, professional, and focused. We’ll see how it goes.”

In light of this, Raducanu expressed her desire to find the right fit for her coaching needs going forward. “A lot has happened since Australia. It’s good that I have someone who is very experienced here. We’ll see how the work goes and how we get along both on and off the court. I’m looking forward to seeing how it develops,” she added.
