Emma Raducanu splits with coach after ‘unfortunate circumstances’

Emma Raducanu has announced her split from coach Sebastian Sachs, with the British No.1 implying that her current injury status makes it ‘unfeasible’ for the partnership to continue.

Raducanu began working with the German at the end of last year, but has faced a disrupted 2023 with injuries bringing her season to a halt after undergoing surgeries to both of her wrists and her left ankle.

The 20-year-old announced that her fifth coaching relationship since arriving on the WTA tour would be coming to an end with a statement on social media.

I have really enjoyed Seb’s coaching and working with him, it’s unfortunate that circumstances made it unfeasible for both of us to continue right now and we have decided to part ways. I wish Seb all the best moving forwards,” Raducanu said on Twitter.

While Raducanu and Sachs only worked together for five tournaments, it did produce the 2021 US Open champion’s best ranked win since her shock triumph in New York when she beat 13th seed Beatriz Haddad Maia, to reach the fourth round of Indian Wells.

However, with the No.107 unavailable to compete at Roland Garros, Wimbledon and potentially the US Open, it is understandable that the two had decided to part ways.
