Alpine has confirmed that Mick Schumacher is under consideration for its 2025 Formula 1 driver lineup. The announcement comes as the French team evaluates potential changes due to current performance challenges and expiring driver contracts.
As the Formula 1 paddock keeps a keen eye on driver movements for the 2025 season, one name that continues to surface is Mick Schumacher. The German driver, who is currently competing in the World Endurance Championship (WEC) with Alpine after his exit from a full-time Formula One seat, is now officially on the team’s radar for a return.
Schumacher, once part of the Haas F1 Team, transitioned to the World Endurance Championship under the Alpine banner after taking a role as Mercedes’ reserve driver in 2023, which he has continued with alongside the WEC.
During recent discussions about the team’s future and driver lineup, Alpine Team Principal Bruno Famin confirmed Mick’s potential inclusion for the 2025 season. Alpine currently faces uncertainty with their existing drivers, Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly, as their contracts are set to expire at the end of this year. This, compounded by the team’s struggle to secure points in the current season, has led to broader considerations about their direction.
Famin expressed great admiration for Schumacher’s contributions within their World Endurance Championship team, highlighting traits beyond just his pace. He explained to the media during the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix weekend.
Mick, from the very first minute, has been very, very cooperative, really helpful for his teammates.”

At the start of the year, Schumacher explained during an interview with Formula1.com that F1 will always be the dream. He explained at the time:
“I mean, it does include a lot of hair pulling and tearing, and I feel like you don’t really see that.
“Obviously, this is the first media table that I’ve done this year [and] that shows a lot and says a lot in that sense, but F1 has always been a dream and it will always remain the dream.
“Again, there is no reason to stay here, not race, fall behind everybody… I would rather go out there, find something to race and develop my skills. In the end, if that leads to no way back into F1 but leads to another career, then I am happy to do that.”
