F1 STAR MICK SCHUMACHER ‘EXCITED’ TO TAKE PART IN THE UPCOMING…

Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff is hopeful that Mick Schumacher’s entry into the World Endurance Championship for Alpine could open the Formula 1 door for him in the future if his driving skills are found to be suitable for the sport

Toto Wolff expresses hope that Mick Schumacher’s entry into the World Endurance Championship (WEC) with Alpine could pave the way for a return to Formula 1 in the future.
Mick Schumacher, reserve driver for Mercedes, explored WEC as an alternative racing option after being unable to secure an F1 seat for the 2024 season.
Wolff acknowledges Schumacher’s talent and sees the WEC opportunity with Alpine as a chance for him to stay competitive and potentially make a Formula 1 comeback.

Schumacher had been serving reserve driver duties in the Mercedes camp under Wolff, with the hope of securing a seat for 2024 with one of the teams. But, with the grid being booked entirely, the German driver explored other racing options that could keep him busy.

The former Haas driver was ousted from the American team after the 2022 season since he had scored just 12 points and finished P16 in the Drivers’ Standings. Failing to secure a seat for 2023, he joined the team that his father once drove for- Mercedes.

Wolff, who has been supportive of Mick, believes that his journey ahead with Alpine’s Endurance Team could reopen doors for the 24-year-old racer in Formula 1, in the future. He explained on the Mercedes’ F1 2023 review show

Mick is a good driver, [he] deserves to be in F1 but there isn’t any, there isn’t any place free, there isn’t any vacancy of cockpit.

“I think him going into WEC, which is a world championship with a constructor, with Alpine, is a very good opportunity for him.

“I believe he’s going to do a perfect job and it keeps him sharp, racing, and maybe coming back into Formula 1.”
