Fernando Alonso, Aston Martin’s two-time champion driver, recently shared his insights into the team’s strategic approach to the Japanese Grand Prix. In addition to this, the Spaniard has revealed that there are more upgrades “in the pipeline” for his AMR24 machinery.
At the heart of Alonso’s recent performance was a calculated risk that set him apart from the likes of the McLaren and Mercedes drivers: the decision to start the race on soft tires. This choice, borne out of necessity rather than preference, was a plan that the Silverstone team had been developing since Thursday.

We didn’t have any other tire available,” he admitted to the media after the race, as quoted by GPBlog. “So we chose, since Thursday, we were thinking that that was the best strategy to have soft, medium, hard into the race. It’s what we executed,” Alonso explained.
The race’s early stages were marked by drama, including a collision between Alex Albon and Daniel Ricciardo on Lap 1, triggering a red flag. But despite potential setbacks, Alonso’s performance remained unaffected by the dramatic start.
