Fernando Alonso makes Aston Martin plea after ‘running out of ideas’

Fernando Alonso has issued a plea for fresh upgrades from Aston Martin after “running out of ideas” at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.

Alonso qualified 13th fastest in Jeddah as he chases his first points of the season in what has been a difficult start for Aston Martin.

Although Lance Stroll scored in Australia and China, the triple-header is yet to yield rewards.

Much of Aston Martin’s focus is on the 2026 rules reset, with new technical signing Adrian Newey having full focus on the rules for next season, but two-time world champion Alonso feels the team needs to deliver a fresh upgrade package to fight in 2025 after exhausting set-up options with the AMR25.

“It is hard, because if I crash, then it is my mistake, but I am not satisfied with the position we are in,” Alonso told media, including RacingNews365.

“You push beyond the limits just to unlock some potential from the car, but it has been a difficult weekend.

“We haven’t unlocked any pace, we’ve tried many different set-ups, and all of them more or less have the same outcome at the end of the lap.

“So we really need something from the factory, and not trackside. I think we’ve run out of ideas at the moment.”

Alonso added Aston Martin’s only chance of scoring points in Jeddah is through the emergence of an unexpected in-race circumstance.

“We don’t have the pace to fight for the top 10, but we have the possibility as anything can happen, such as safety cars or mistakes,” he said.

“We will try to stay focused for the whole race, make no mistakes, and see what the final position is.”
