FIA confirm Red Bull made a mistake in adjusted Verstappen’s car

The FIA has confirmed Red Bull has made an adjustment to Max Verstappen’s car after qualifying at the British Grand Prix.

Verstappen momentarily lost control of his car through the high speed Copse corner, just minutes after team-mate Sergio Perez spun out at the same turn.

However, unlike Perez, Verstappen was able to continue in the session – albeit with significant floor damage after skating through the gravel trap.

“Max went off track in Turn 9 and sustained damage that was around 100 points of downforce,” team advisor Helmut Marko said after the session.

“The mechanics did what was possible in this short time in terms of repair work.

“For the rest, we made some adjustments to the wing settings and so we were able to reduce the damage to about 20 per cent for the last part of qualifying.”

Red Bull indicated after the session that it was keen to make changes to Verstappen’s floor ahead of the grand prix.

Indeed, the FIA has confirmed that a new floor has been fitted to the Dutchman’s car.

As the new component is the same specification as the one that was used during qualifying, Red Bull has not broken parc ferme conditions, allowing Verstappen to retain his P4 starting slot.
