Amazon Creator Connections Explained for Influencers

Amazon Creator Connections is one of the most useful tools in the program, and one of the most misunderstood. Creators join a campaign, see a big bonus percentage, film a video, and then wonder why their earnings look the same as always. Usually the answer is in the fine print: the budget ran out, the sale didn't ship in the campaign window, or the shopper bought a variant that wasn't part of the campaign.

This guide explains how Amazon Creator Connections works, using Amazon's own creator materials, and how to decide which campaigns are worth your time. If you're new to the program in general, start with the Amazon Influencer Program guide.

What is Amazon Creator Connections?

Creator Connections is Amazon's marketplace that connects brands selling on Amazon with Amazon creators. Brands create campaigns for specific products. Creators opt in, publish content about those products, and earn based on performance.

According to Amazon's overview of the Influencer Program, Creator Connections can pay through several models: bonus commissions for driving product sales, payments for driving traffic to sponsored products, and flat-rate fees for sponsored social content that brands can license for advertising. The bonus-commission campaign is the one most creators work with day to day, so that's the focus here.

How Amazon Creator Connections campaigns work

Amazon's Creator Connections getting started guide lays out the pieces of a campaign. Brands set nearly all of them.

Products

The brand picks which products, and sometimes which specific variants, are in the campaign. You don't have to feature every product in a campaign. Pick the ones that fit your content.

Campaign dates

Each campaign has a start and end date. The bonus only applies to qualifying sales within that window. Amazon's guide says the bonus covers qualified shipped sales between the start and end dates, so timing matters.

Bonus commission rate

The brand sets the bonus rate, and Amazon's guide says it isn't negotiable. The key point: it's a bonus on top of your standard commission, not a replacement. Amazon's own example: if a campaign offers a 20% bonus and the item costs $100, you'd earn a $20 bonus in addition to your regular commission.

Campaign budget

This is the part creators overlook. The brand sets a total budget that all creators in the campaign earn against. As qualifying sales come in, the remaining budget goes down, and when the budget is used up, the campaign ends automatically, even if the end date hasn't arrived. A huge bonus rate on a small budget may be gone before your video is even approved.

Payment timing

Amazon's guide says you're paid approximately 60 days after the end of the month in which your sales shipped. Bonus commissions are paid along with your standard Amazon Associates commissions.

Does Creator Connections work with onsite videos?

This is the question that matters most to video creators. Amazon's getting started guide addresses it in its earnings FAQ. The Creator Connections tab in your earnings summary shows only your offsite bonus, tied to your regular Store ID. To see onsite earnings, you switch to your Onsite Store ID, and Amazon says the total shown there includes your Creator Connections earnings.

In practice, that means a campaign can add bonus commission to sales that come through your shoppable videos on Amazon, as long as the sale qualifies under that campaign's terms. Always read the specific campaign, because eligible products, variants, and sellers can differ.

Joining a campaign: the basics

Here's the general flow:

  1. Browse campaigns in Creator Connections in your Associates account.
  2. Read the brief. It covers products, dates, bonus rate, and anything the brand wants you to emphasize.
  3. Opt in to the campaigns that fit your content.
  4. Get your campaign link if you're promoting offsite. Amazon's creator guide describes a campaign-specific affiliate link on the campaign page.
  5. Create and publish your content, including your shoppable video on Amazon if that's part of your plan.
  6. Disclose. Amazon's creator guide says sponsored content must clearly disclose compensation, for example with "Ad" or "Sponsored," in line with FTC guidance.

What about samples?

Some campaigns offer samples. Amazon's creator materials note that if you accept a sample through a campaign, you're expected to use it in the content you create for that campaign. Treat a sample as a commitment, not a freebie.

How to choose Creator Connections campaigns worth filming

Not every campaign is a good deal. A high bonus doesn't help if nobody buys the product, or if twenty other creators already have videos on it. Run each campaign through the same checks you'd use for any product (covered in detail in how to pick Amazon influencer products):

Demand

Is the product actually selling? A modest bonus on a product with steady sales can beat a big bonus on a listing that barely moves.

Competition

How many creators already have videos on the listing? Campaign products often attract a crowd. If the page is already packed, your video may land in the bottom carousel or not show at all. More on that in how to reach the top carousel.

Budget and timing

How much budget is left, and how long until the end date? If approval and placement take time, a campaign that's nearly out of budget may not be worth starting.

Fit

Can you make a genuinely useful video about this product? Amazon's detail-page guidance still applies: show it in use, say something useful, and make it obvious which product it is.

Finding campaign products while you shop

The hardest part of Creator Connections is often just noticing which products have campaigns while you browse. Checking campaign by campaign is slow.

ReelVine shows Creator Connections commission right on Amazon search results, joined or not, so you can spot higher-commission campaigns across a whole search page while you browse a category. Combined with the competition count and potential income estimate on Platinum, it's a quick way to see whether a campaign product is worth filming. ReelVine is an independent tool, not part of Amazon, and it only reads the pages you open. Plan details are on the ReelVine pricing page.

Keeping track of campaigns and brand conversations

Once you're in a few campaigns, plus brand emails and DMs, it's easy to lose track. Who sent a sample? Which campaign ends Friday? Which brand is waiting on a link? A simple tracker helps a lot. Note the brand, product, campaign dates, sample status, and when you posted. ReelVine's brand deal tracker keeps those conversations in one place, from first message to free product.

Common Creator Connections mistakes

  • Ignoring the budget. Big rate, tiny budget, gone in days.
  • Posting late. Amazon's creator guide recommends posting early in the campaign window for the most potential bonus.
  • Wrong variant or seller. Only the campaign's products count.
  • Skipping disclosure. Amazon's guide says undisclosed sponsored content may have to be taken down and reposted.
  • Accepting samples you won't film. You're expected to use campaign samples in your campaign content.

Amazon Creator Connections FAQ

Is the Creator Connections bonus instead of my normal commission?

No. Amazon describes it as a bonus commission paid on top of your standard Associates or Influencer commission for qualifying sales of the campaign's products.

Why didn't I earn a bonus on a sale?

Common reasons include a sale outside the campaign dates, a product or variant that wasn't part of the campaign, a return, or a campaign budget that had already run out. Check the campaign's terms and the Performance section of the campaign detail page.

Can I negotiate the bonus rate?

Amazon's getting started guide says the brand sets the bonus rate and it isn't negotiable within the campaign.

Do I have to disclose Creator Connections content?

Yes. Amazon's creator guide says sponsored content must clearly disclose that you're compensated, for example with "Ad" or "Sponsored," and brands may add their own requirements.

Where do I see Creator Connections earnings from my videos?

According to Amazon's getting started guide, the Creator Connections earnings tab shows your offsite bonus only. Switch to your Onsite Store ID to see onsite earnings, which include Creator Connections earnings from onsite content.
