Grizzlies Lose Game 1 in First-Round Series with Thunder

The No. 1 seed Oklahoma City Thunder defeated the No. 8 seed Memphis Grizzlies 131-80 in Game 1 of the teams’ first-round playoff series on Sunday at Paycom Center.

Ja Morant scored 17 points to lead the Grizzlies, who earned the final spot in the Western Conference Playoffs with a Play-In Tournament win over Dallas at home on Friday. Marvin Bagley III also scored 17 points and shot 8-of-8 off the bench in his playoff debut.

Aaron Wiggins scored 21 points off the bench to lead the Thunder, who outscored the Grizzlies 80-43 in the second and third quarters and led by as many as 56 in the second half. All five of the Thunder’s starters scored in double-digits: Jalen Williams (20), Chet Holmgren (19), Isaiah Hartenstein (14), Luguentz Dort (12) and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (15). Holmgren added 10 rebounds.

The Grizzlies trailed 21-17 with 2:54 remaining in the first quarter, but the Thunder finished the period on an 11-3 run and won the second frame 36-16 to take a 68-36 halftime lead.The Thunder outscored the Grizzlies 44-27 in the third quarter.

Oklahoma City scored 24 points off 24 Memphis turnovers and outscored the Grizzlies 17-6 from the 3-point line.

The Grizzlies and the Thunder will meet again in Game 2 of the First Round at Paycom Center on Tuesday, April 22, at 6:30 p.m. CT. The game will be televised on TNT and FanDuel Sports Network Southeast and broadcast nationally on ESPN Radio and regionally on 92.9 FM ESPN.
