Novak Djokovic put his friend first after winning his 40th Masters title, cutting an interview short to console the defeated Grigor Dimitrov.
The Serb won a record-extending seventh title in Paris, brushing aside world no.17 Dimitrov 6-4, 6-3 with the Bulgarian in only his second final.
Dimitrov had looked inspired in the run up to the final, raising hope he may be able to take down the world no.1, but unable to catch a break, things clearly got to him post-match.
The 32-year-old was seen with his head in his towel struggling to contain his emotions, and when Djokovic’s victory interview started to drag on a little too long, he opted to call time on it.
Clearly also full of emotion, he ducked out of a question and went to console his good friend, heading away from the reporter to take a moment.
It was a sixth title of 2023 for the world no.1, who took three Grand Slams during the year to go clear with a record of 24 overall.

Some fans in Bercy weren’t too pleased though, offering some boos during a dominant final, which Djokovic responded to by waving his hand asking for more.
Explaining his emotions, the 36-year-old said: “It’s incredible to be able to win after quite challenging circumstances for me this week.
“Coming back from the brink of losing three matches in a row on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
“I was close to losing those matches and somehow managed to find an extra gear when it was needed.
