Kyle Busch among drivers seeking last-minute push after Richmond penalties

Kyle Busch and Austin Dillon are among NASCAR drivers who need a win to qualify for the playoffs. The latter’s win in the Cook Out 400 at Richmond Raceway was recently disqualified for playoff eligibility. He keeps the win but it will not count toward the playoffs. This decision has opened up another spot for drivers like Kyle Busch, Chase Briscoe, and Todd Gillilan, who are looking to qualify for the playoffs.

Twelve drivers have secured their spots in the NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs by winning a race after 23 regular season races. With three races left in the regular season, drivers not in the top 16 still have three chances to win and qualify. At least one playoff spot will be decided by points. With Dillon’s spot removed, 12 drivers are now set for the playoffs. Others will compete for the remaining spots. The likes of Martin Truex Jr., Ty Gibbs, and Bubba Wallace are still above the cut-off for elimination, but by a small margin. Martin Truex Jr. is currently eighth in the standings with 662 points. With no wins, he is at risk of missing the playoffs.
