Spire Motorsports has purchased Kyle Busch’s eponymous NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series team, Spire’s latest major move after bringing on Andretti Global partner Gainbridge Financial earlier this year. The deal was announced this morning at the same time that Busch informed his employees of the news at his 77,000-square-foot shop near Charlotte. Terms were undisclosed, but the assets suggest the purchase price was into the seven figures, with the deal involving the shop, labor force and Rowdy Manufacturing machine parts company. There are no charters in the third-tier Truck Series.
Busch, the two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion, started Kyle Busch Motorsports in 2010 and it’s been highly successful — standing as the most winning team in Truck Series history. It produced two champion drivers along the way in Erik Jones and Christopher Bell, while Busch would often moonlight in the series in his own equipment — and usually win.
Busch now competes in the Cup Series for Richard Childress Racing after a longtime stint with Joe Gibbs Racing, and the 38-year-old indicated that this move was emblematic of how he’s reaching a different stage of his life and career. Busch: “My family has grown, my Cup Series team has changed this year and our son’s racing schedule has become as demanding as my own.”

For Spire, this continues a run of deals by the team owned by industry power brokers Jeff Dickerson and T.J. Puchyr, who formerly ran the Spire Sports & Entertainment driver and sponsor representation agency. Dickerson formerly represented Busch, a Las Vegas native. Spire will expand to three cars in the Cup Series next year after buying a third charter for a reported price of $40M. The KBM purchase will give the team more space and resources as it expands. It all follows financial services company Gainbridge joining Spire this summer, in a move that is indirectly serving as an experimental step into the stock car series for Andretti, SBJ previously reported.
