Kyle Larson led the NASCAR Cup Series in 2024 with the most wins at six. The next closest won three times. The Hendrick Motorsports driver also led multiple other major statistical categories, including laps led and top fives.
Despite those impressive numbers, the 2021 champ won’t be competing for a second title in the Championship 4 at Phoenix on Sunday. His absence is one of the reasons fans have complained since Martinsville about the playoffs and how they don’t reward the best drivers in the field.
On Saturday during media availabilities, a reporter brought up last week’s controversial ending at The Paper Clip and how some fans on X proposed that the 32-year-old driver should have been the one to advance instead of teammate William Byron or Christopher Bell, who were both the beneficiaries of alleged race manipulation by other teams driving for the same manufacturer.

Larson announcing his departure from the social media platform is not what fans of the No. 5 want to hear. The news is particularly surprising because it appeared that the HMS driver had found his voice on X in 2024 and regularly shared his thoughts.
One of the more memorable occurred at the end of September following the race at Bristol when he wrote a lengthy post. In it, Larson talked about the history of The World’s Fastest Half-Mile and how it’s always been hard to pass. He concluded by asking if any fans had driven the track with or without PJ1 and then, via an emoji, suggested they zip their lips on the topic.
