Kyle Larson Delivers Verdict On NASCAR Waiver Rule As ‘The Double

Kyle Larson has spoken out on the recent waiver rule change which NASCAR has introduced ahead of the 2025 season.

This new rule adjustment is centered around imposing stricter conditions for waivers, which now come with the consequence of losing all accrued playoff points.

Larson attempted a challenging feat in 2024 known as “The Double,” aiming to compete in both the Indianapolis 500 and the Coca-Cola 600 on the same day.

The attempt was interrupted by a rain delay at the Indy 500, causing Larson to miss the start of the Coca-Cola 600. Despite the setback, NASCAR granted him a waiver to remain eligible for championship contention.

With the new waiver rule changes taking effect in 2025, NASCAR has established a stricter framework. If a driver receives a waiver for missing a race for non-medical reasons, such as suspensions or conflicts with other events, they must forfeit all their current playoff points.

Only exceptions like medical emergencies, the birth of a child, or family emergencies would allow a driver to retain their points. This change forces drivers to reconsider the priorities in their racing calendar.
