Lewis Hamilton pressed to abandon Ferrari as Red Bull warned against

Max Verstappen will aim to mathematically seal his fourth consecutive Drivers’ Championship in Las Vegas later this month. The Red Bull star took a dagger to Lando Norris’ title bid in Brazil last time out, where he surged from 17th on the grid to take the win.

Though the top of the individual standings are all but settled, a tense battle is still underway among the constructors. McLaren, Ferrari and Red Bull are separated by fewer than 50 points ahead of the season’s final three races.

Mercedes are a long way behind in fourth, and they will be keen to give Lewis Hamilton a good send-off before he joins the Scuderia.

Former F1 chief Bernie Ecclestone has urged Lewis Hamilton to abandon his Ferrari contract if he feels like he is a fading force in the sport.

Hamilton’s agreement with the Scuderia sent shockwaves through the grid, but the 39-year-old struggled in Brazil last weekend and has not been on the podium since July.

“I don’t think it will be easy for Lewis. Especially in that team,” Ecclestone told the Daily Mail. “They will back Charles Leclerc. He’s quick and has grown up there. They won’t dump him for anyone.

“If Lewis is fading, which I don’t like to see, he should go away and do something else, and do a good job at it.

“He’s now one of the older generation – and didn’t he say he wanted to hear less from them?”
