It was announced on Sunday by Damichael Cole of the Memphis Commercial Appeal that the Memphis Grizzlies are expected to waive Kenneth Lofton Jr. to make room for Ja Morant’s return from suspension. e, “While the Grizzlies have made calls around the NBA weighing rival teams’ interest in their end-of-the-rotation players, sources said, opposing front offices expect Kenneth Lofton Jr. to be the likely candidate waived before Morant’s return, if a trade doesn’t materialize in the coming days.”

Lofton showed some signs of potential at both the NBA and G-League level, but they were not consistent enough to keep him on the roster. The Grizzlies brought in veteran big man Bismack Biyombo with their exception granted from Morant’s suspension, and his play has made Lofton the odd man out.
This is a tough break for Lofton, but at just 21 years old he should get an opportunity somewhere else after his release from the Grizzlies. Teams are always looking to add organizational depth, and with the flashes Lofton has shown, he should get a chance to join another organization at some point.
