Mick Schumacher has pledged full focus on the World Endurance Championship (WEC) after the end of his Formula One engagement and no chance of a return in sight.
“Formula One was always my dream and will always remain my dream. But the WEC is the number one priority. That requires 100% dedication,” Schumacher said at test events in Monza, Italy.
Schumacher, 25, the son of joint record F1 world champion Michael Schumacher, is starting his second WEC season with French team Alpine.
He made his debut last year, when he was also a reserve driver for the Mercedes F1 team.
Schumacher ended the Mercedes role after two years at the end 2024. He drove for the Haas team in 2021 and 2022 but has not had another F1 race this then. He did not manage to find a full-time driving job in the elite series for 2025.
He said he left Mercedes because he wanted to “fully devote himself to the sporting aspect of racing” again and not be watching on like in F1.
“My dream is a dream but when I sit in the car I sit in it 100%. The dream lives on in those moments when I have time off and can think about it,” he said.
