Mick Schumacher is an option for Alpine’s 2025 F1 driver line-up

The driver market for the 2025 Formula 1 season is in full swing, and Alpine is at the center of the action. With both Esteban Ocon confirmed to be leaving and Pierre Gasly’s future uncertain, the French team is actively evaluating options.

According to motorsport.com, Mick Schumacher, son of the legendary Michael Schumacher, has emerged as a surprise contender. The young German, who lost his Haas seat at the end of 2023, will be given a chance to prove himself behind the wheel of an Alpine A522 during a test on July 3rd at the Paul Ricard circuit in France.

This test holds particular significance as Schumacher already has a connection to Alpine through their World Endurance Championship Hypercar program. There, he currently shares the #36 A424 LMDh with experienced sportscar racers Nicolas Lapierre and Matthieu Vaxiviere.

While Alpine advisor Flavio Briatore has expressed satisfaction with Gasly’s performance, hinting at a possible extension, the team isn’t putting all their eggs in one basket. Motorsport-Total.com suggests Gasly is also on the radar of Audi, who are entering F1 in 2026 and taking over the Sauber team. This possibility grows stronger with Carlos Sainz’s future at Ferrari uncertain, making him a potential target for both Sauber/Audi and Williams.

Adding another layer to the intrigue, Alpine junior driver Jack Doohan is also slated to participate in the Paul Ricard test alongside Schumacher. This suggests Alpine might not be restricted to choosing between the two youngsters after the test.

The upcoming test day will be crucial for both Schumacher and Doohan. Schumacher will be eager to impress and potentially secure a coveted F1 seat, while Doohan will be looking to showcase his talent and make a case for a promotion from his current test driver role.

Alpine’s driver selection process promises to be a fascinating watch, with established names like Sainz and Gasly in the mix alongside the exciting prospects of Schumacher and Doohan. Only time will tell who will line up for the French outfit in 2025.
