Will we see the return of Mick Schumacher to Formula 1 in 2025? This is at least what the latest reports suggest, with a German driver getting closer and closer to a return to Formula 1, two years after being let go by Haas. The American team deemed the driver too expensive financially and not providing enough guarantees.
After this painful episode, the 2020 Formula 2 champion found refuge at Mercedes with Toto Wolff, who offered him a reserve driver position for the German team. This year, he decided to focus on endurance racing with the Alpine brand and even had the opportunity for the first time to participate in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, where he unfortunately had to retire due to a breakdown of his Mecachrome engine.
Satisfied with his performances in WEC, the French team recently tested him at Paul Ricard with the 2022 Alpine A522. A test that seems to have been successful according to the boss of Mercedes, delighted with the performance of his reserve driver: “According to what I know about Alpine, it was a great test. He really delivered the goods, I am also happy about it. That’s the message I received. They are super happy, but it was predictable.”
Recently used by McLaren for Pirelli tests at Silverstone, the German could therefore resurface in F1. Questioned during the 6 hours of São Paulo, he does not hide his ambitions: “My plan has always been Formula 1, now we are waiting to see what opportunities are available to me. I think there is a chance that doors will open, but it is obviously a slightly anxious time because we are waiting and after a while some of them may close. So you have to know what you want to do. But I have decided that I will wait for Formula 1 for as long as it takes”.

The son of the seven-time German world champion is therefore ready to seize any opportunity that comes his way. Among the possible options, the one leading to Alpine seems the most obvious, given that he is committed to the team in the endurance championship.
Furthermore, other options are available to him, such as Audi, which could decide to field a duo of 100% German drivers after recruiting Nico Hülkenberg a few weeks ago. A return to Haas would be an option, although the American team would prefer to turn to Esteban Ocon. Nevertheless, the German is willing to consider all possibilities and is open to negotiations in order to find a place on the starting grid.
Translate: « There are obviously many interesting options. The question is to see what options are available to me. It is not easy, but for me, it is important to return to Formula 1 in order to show what I can do and what I have not been able to prove over the past two years. I am waiting to see what opportunities will arise.
A hopeful driver despite tough competition to secure a seat, he hopes that the experience he has gained since his departure could be useful and encourage teams to turn to the former Haas driver. At this stage, the Formula 1 transfer market is far from over.
