Mick Schumacher doesn’t turn the page on Formula 1. Sidelined from the grid since 2022, the German driver still harbors hopes of a comeback, despite a tough experience with Haas F1. Confronted with a harsh learning curve against Kevin Magnussen, he has never stopped believing. “My dream is my dream,” he confides candidly to RTL. “It lives in the moments when I have free time and can think about it.” At 25, the son of the legendary Michael Schumacher keeps his ultimate goal in sight: to secure a seat in F1 and honor his name.

A complicated experience at Haas

Arriving in Formula 1 in 2021 with the ambition of making a name for himself alongside his father, Mick Schumacher quickly learned the toughness of the paddock. From the very beginning, he faced the limitations of a not-so-competitive Haas. Despite his Formula 2 title in 2020, he struggled to compete against Kevin Magnussen during his second season. In 2023, the decision came: the American team decided to part ways with him, preferring the experience of Nico Hülkenberg. A hard blow that could have crushed his hopes, but Mick refuses to give up. “Every failure is a lesson,” he likes to repeat. Far from being defeated, he finds refuge with Mercedes, where he becomes a reserve driver until November 2024.

If his immediate future no longer seems linked to F1, Schumacher quickly rebounds in another discipline: endurance racing. In 2023, Alpine opens its doors for him to compete in the World Endurance Championship (WEC), where he quickly stands out with a podium finish. Fully committed, he dedicates himself wholeheartedly to this new challenge. “When I’m in the car, I’m there 100%, in the simulator, during the meeting, no matter what,” he asserts with determination. A temporary career change or a new long-term trajectory? In any case, he always keeps an eye on F1.

A dream always present

In 2025, Mick will continue his endurance adventure with Alpine. The French team trusts him and gives him the keys to grow in a different discipline, where strategy and race management play a key role. Aware of the progress made, he is confident about the future. “We know much more about our car today than a year ago, but we are still fine-tuning the last details and perfecting everything,” he explains. But behind this commitment in endurance, one ambition persists, just as burning: to return to Formula 1. “Formula 1 remains a dream,” he insists. A dream he refuses to abandon.
