Following Rafa Nadal’s announcement of his retirement from professional tennis after the Davis Cup which he will be playing with Spain in November 2024, Real Madrid C. F., its President and its Board of Directors wish to express their admiration and affection for one of the greatest legends of Spanish and world sport of all time.

For us and for all Madridistas, it is and will always be a matter of pride that a legend like Rafa Nadal represents our club as an honorary member of Real Madrid.

Real Madrid club president, Florentino Pérez, said: “Rafa Nadal is also a source of pride for our country and is an example of the core values of sport, with which he has forged his entire extraordinary career.”

His record will always stand for success and achievement with 22 Grand Slams: 14 Roland Garros, making him the tennis player who has won this prestigious tournament the most times, 4 US Open, 2 Wimbledon and 2 Australian Open. He is also the only tennis player in history to have lifted at least one Grand Slam for ten years in a row and five consecutive Roland Garros trophies.

While defending the colours of Spain, Rafa Nadal has won the Davis Cup 5 times to date (2004, 2008, 2009, 2011 and 2019), as well as gold medals at the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008 and Rio de Janeiro in 2016.

Including Grand Slam, ATP and Olympic medals, Rafa Nadal has a total of 103 trophies.

His historic and legendary career has always been founded on his talent, his enduring spirit of self-improvement, his humility, his solidarity and his respect. His way of understanding sport and life has earned him the most prestigious awards: Prince of Asturias Award for Sports 2008, Grand Cross of the Royal Order of Sports Merit, 3 times National Sports Award for the Best Spanish Sportsman and Gold Medal for Merit in Work, among others.
