Tonight things look a bit different on the FOX NASCAR Truck Series broadcast. Carson Hocevar is pit reporting and Ross Chastain is racing. These two are good friends off the track, but Chastain couldn’t help to rib his younger Cup Series competitor.
Both Ross Chastain and Carson Hocevar raced for Niece Motorsports in the Truck Series. They still do on occasion. You could say Niece helped introduce both of these talents to the NASCAR world.
While the 22-year-old Hocevar was interviewing the 32-year-old Chastain, the Trackhouse Racing driver couldn’t help but crack a joke. And it was a good one.
I’d say I’m the most relieved though that you’ve got a microphone in your hand and not a steering wheel though,” Chastain said before Hocevar signed off to the booth
Ross Chastain was cracking a joke about Carson Hocevar and his aggressive driving reputation. Then going into Turn 1, Chastain sent it four wide and caused rookie Gio Ruggiero to wreck. Ben Rhodes was also involved.
Now, Ross Chastain’s joke was hilarious. I think it was, anyway. He is a mentor of sorts for Hocevar and he should be able to crack a joke with his friend. But I don’t want to hear about Hocevar and his aggressive driving when Chastain regularly does things like this. He isn’t the only one, either.
Multiple drivers are able to be aggressive. They step over the line. It goes unnoticed many times or is dismissed for a variety of reasons.
Maybe Ross Chastain should have had the mic in his hand tonight and Carson Hocevar should have had the steering wheel. What do you think?
If you are not tuning into the Craftsman Truck Series race tonight, you should be. This race is hotter than any of the action we have seen from this series so far this season. Fantastic racing throughout the field early on.
