Verstappen seeking Japan-style comeback at Saudi Arabian GP

Red Bull endured a disastrous weekend in Bahrain as it couldn’t produce the pace to contest at the front of the field.

Max Verstappen has highlighted his desire to execute a comeback similar to his triumph in Japan at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix this weekend.

Verstappen endured a difficult event in Bahrain last time out, as his drive to sixth marked his lowest result from the opening four races.

Red Bull struggled for pace throughout the weekend and could not compete at the front of the grid, despite Verstappen winning at Suzuka just days before.

While the car lacked overall pace, pit stop gremlins and overheating tyres added to Verstappen’s misery on Sunday.

“Bahrain was quite a difficult weekend for us and didn’t really go our way at all,” Verstappen reflected.

“We had some issues that set us back and we still have a lot of work to do on the car to get us where we need to be.”

Round five of the campaign this weekend takes place around the Jeddah Corniche Circuit, where Verstappen has won on two occasions.

The four-time champion is looking to get back on form with a return to the top step of the podium and rediscover the form that led him to victory in Japan.

“However, last year Jeddah was a good track for us and it is a proper high speed semi street circuit which is fun to drive,” he said.

“Typically, there is less tyre degradation at this circuit, so it naturally should be a better race for us.

“We have a final push with this being the third race and final weekend of the triple header so hopefully we can find more pace and bring out a performance similar to Japan.”
