The Formula 1 will always remain a dream,” admits Mick Schumacher

Mick Schumacher drove for the Haas F1 Team in 2021 and 2022 but had to hand over his seat to Nico Hülkenberg for the 2023 season. During that year, he served as a reserve driver for Mercedes.

During the winter, none of the ten teams decided to change drivers, and Schumacher had to find an exit door out of Formula 1. The German driver then committed to Alpine to compete in the WEC season, driving the new Hypercar of the French brand, the A524.

Interviewed at the last Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, about his feelings after processing the loss of his seat, Mick Schumacher declared, “This is the first press event I do this year, and it means a lot of things, but Formula 1 has always been a dream and it will always remain.”

Obviously, entering my first year in F1, it was difficult to know exactly what my position should be and how far I could go with my comments and everything else.

(EN) There is no reason to stay in Formula 1, to not race, to lag behind everyone else… I would rather leave, find something to drive and develop my skills. Ultimately, if this doesn’t lead to a return to F1 but to another career, then I’m happy to do it, he expressed.

In 2024, Mick Schumacher will continue to serve as a reserve driver at Mercedes in addition to his new position at Alpine in the WEC, and the 24-year-old driver has clearly indicated that he has learned valuable lessons from his collaboration with Lewis Hamilton and George Russell.

« Having worked with Lewis and George for a year now, I more or less know the standard and how far I can go, and I have no problem sharing my information in the future.

« I think the most important point for me to emphasize is that, as a pilot, I know much more about what I want from my team around me, what I think I’m worth, and what I can bring to a team », he commented.

Mick Schumacher will make his first official laps with the Alpine Endurance Team on the weekend of March 2nd in Qatar, while the Formula 1 paddock will kick off its season the same weekend in Bahrain.
